McConnaughay spotlights every day hero, Lisa Pivaronas, Cultural Arts Coordinator at Playhouse 38

This month, Senator McConnaughay spotlights Lisa Pivaronas, the Cultural Arts Coordinator for Geneva Park District’s Playhouse 38 Theatre.

Pivaronas joined the Geneva Park District staff in 2013, and in a short period of time, has helped to transform the theater company into a local gem in the Fox Valley arts community. As the Cultural Arts Coordinator, she leads in the planning and creation of new acting and improvisation classes for youth and adults, and coordinates eight theatrical and musical productions per year.

Playhouse 38 is not only an outlet for members of the community to express creativity, but it also provides them an opportunity to meet fellow actors and like-minded theater enthusiasts.

“They get surrounded by their cast mates who become a little community to support them," said Pivaronas. "Unlike sports, there are never any defeats and no losing team, so we can all be victorious.”

For each show, she works with the actors on their performance, and assists the stage crew in organizing the make-up, sound, music, lights and set production to create the ultimate experience. When not putting on productions, Pivaronas is always exploring new ways to engage the community and expand the course offerings at Playhouse 38.

“My favorite thing about my job is watching a shy or quiet child or adult take that first step of trying out acting and blossoming into their role on stage,” she said. “Watching that transformation is the best,” said Pivaronas.

Prior to working for Geneva Park District, Pivaronas directed theater productions for several years at Bartlett Park District and also gained experience working backstage at Willow Creek Church, where she prepared actors and performers for large production numbers.

Senator McConnaughay is proud of the tremendous success Playhouse 38 has become. Their upcoming production “This Is Not What I Ordered” is hosting open auditions for actors on January 18 and 20, and the show will premiere March 16 of next year. She encourages everyone to explore the many creative opportunities and experiences the playhouse has to offer.

Playhouse 38 is a facility of the Geneva Park District and is located at 321 Stevens Street, Suite P. For more information, visit Playhouse 38's webpage at
