Community Spotlight: Bob Smith of Algonquin
This week, Senator McConnaughay spotlights Bob Smith, the longest tenured Village Trustee in Algonquin.
Bob was elected to the Algonquin Village Board 24 years ago, with a goal to increase the recreational opportunities for young people, according to Algonquin Village President John Schmitt.
"In 1993, Algonquin was not in the financial position to spend on recreation, so it was difficult. Bob met the challenge," President Schmitt said. "We are now blessed with a very energetic recreation program with a pool, many athletic fields, cooperation with baseball and soccer organizations, many activities and intergovernmental agreements with park districts. None of that would have happened without the efforts of Bob Smith. It is my honor to name the park in Copper Oaks subdivision the Robert 'Bob' Smith Park. Thank you, Bob."
Senator McConnaughay thanks Bob for his dedication and hard work on behalf of Algonquin.
"Bob Smith has shown the kind of innovation and commitment that make communities like Algonquin such wonderful places to work and call 'home,' " she said.
