Community Spotlight: The Fenzel Family of Hampshire
This week, Senator McConnaughay spotlights The Fenzel Family of Hampshire for celebrating the 75th business anniversary of the family’s business, Fenzel Motor Sales in Hampshire, on November 1. She presented John Fenzel with a certificate commemorating 75 years in business in Hampshire at the dealership November 14 (picture below).
John (picture at top) says his father bought a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Hampshire in 1942. The family moved in upstairs over the business. In 1975, the business added Plymouth and Dodge trucks; in 1980, they added Dodge cars; and in 1993, they added Jeep.
John says Fenzel Motor Sales has gone through a lot of ups and downs, but with the support of the Hampshire community, “We have been standing tall through it all. We have been very fortunate thanks to the good people of this community. Kane County is a good county in which to do business.”
John and his wife, Muriel, have three sons and a daughter.
Fenzel Motor Sales was featured in an article by Stephen Haberkorn in the Hampshire Area Chamber of Commerce 2017-2018 Area Guide published in July.
Seventy-five years in business is not the only milestone this family has celebrated recently. Col. Michael R. Fenzel was named Brigadier General in the Army, and a celebration was held October 12 at Marmion Academy in Aurora, where John and his three sons attended school.
The Fenzel family has a tradition of military service. John’s father served his country in France in World War I. John and his sons all served in the Armed Services, as well.
“The Fenzel Family name is synonymous with service – in business, in civic matters, and in the Armed Services,” said Senator McConnaughay. “The Village of Hampshire, Kane County and Illinois are all better places to live thanks to their hard work and commitment to their community and their fellow citizens.”
