State Senator Karen McConnaughay (R-St. Charles) spotlights Steve and Janice Harvel, 2015 Northern Kane County Chamber Community Service Award recipients, who go over and beyond to help with community outreach and local events in their community of East Dundee.

If you attend an East Dundee event—Sunday Farmers Market, Wine Down Wednesdays, or Thirsty Thursdays—and you’ll see Steve and Janice Harvel there volunteering. In fact, it is common to see Steve setting up the Farmers Market at 5 a.m. on a Sunday or hauling materials to and from events.

“We do what we do to help our town grow and succeed,” said Steve Harvel.

Their service to the community also extends to Dickens in Dundee and Heritage Fest. Moreover, they eagerly participated in the planning and implementation of Kids Korner, a wonderful new addition to Heritage Fest.

Steve and Janice are dependable, good-natured volunteers who give of themselves to better East Dundee. Steve is also involved with fundraisers for VFW and Lions Club, plus he is a valuable volunteer for The Nightmare on North Street at Santa’s Village.

“Steve and Janice are such a blessing to the East Dundee community. I am so proud to represent such hardworking and compassionate people like the Harvels,” said Sen. McConnaughay.

The Harvels enthusiasm and eagerness are contagious. As a result, they have not only improved their community through their service, they have encouraged other volunteers to step forward and contribute in East Dundee.
